Ramakrishna was dying. He had throat cancer. The doctor has said that his last moment had come. Then his wife Sharda started crying. Ramakrishna said, stop, do not cry. Sharda is the only woman in the history of the country, at the death of her husband, who smashed bangles. The Ramakrishna said, Do not break bangles. You wanted me to this body? Who Did You Love? Me or the body? The body had to be thy will, if thou bilge bangles.

रामकृष्ण मरते थे। उन्हें गले का कैंसर हुआ था। डाक्टर ने कह दिया कि अब आखिरी घड़ी आ गयी। तो शारदा  उनकी पत्नी रोने लगी। रामकृष्ण ने कहा, रुक, रो मत। क्योंकि जो मरेगा वह तो मरा ही हुआ था, और जो जिंदा था वह कभी नहीं मरेगा। और ध्यान रख, चूड़ियां मत तोड़ना। शारदा अकेली स्त्री है पूरे भारत के इतिहास में, पति के मरने पर  जिसने चूड़ियां नहीं तोड़ी। क्योंकि रामकृष्ण ने कहा, चूड़ियां मत तोड़ना। तूने मुझे चाहा था कि इस देह को? तूने किसको प्रेम किया था? मुझे या इस देह को? अगर इस देह को किया था तो तेरी मर्जी, फिर तू चूड़ियां तोड़ लेना।

और अगर मुझे प्रेम किया था तो मैं नहीं मर रहा हूं। मैं रहूंगा। मैं उपलब्ध रहूंगा। और शारदा ने चूडियाँ नहीं तोड़ी। शारदा की आख से आंसू की एक बूंद नहीं गिरी। लोग तो समझे कि उसे इतना भारी धक्का लगा है कि वह विक्षिप्त हो गयी है। लोगों को तो उसकी बात विक्षिप्तता ही जैसी लगी। लेकिन उसने सब काम वैसे ही जारी रखा जैसे रामकृष्ण जिंदा हों। रोज सुबह वह उन्हें बिस्तर से आकर उठाती कि अब उठो परमहंसदेव, भक्त आ गए हैं-जैसा रोज उठाती थी, भक्त आ जाते थे, और उनको उठाती थी आकर। मसहरी खोलकर खड़ी हो जाती-जैसे सदा खड़ी होती थी। ठीक जब वे भोजन करते थे तब वह थाली लगाकर आ जाती थी, बाहर आकर भक्तों के बीच कहती कि अब चलो, परमहंसदेव! लोग हंसते, और लोग रोते भी कि बेचारी! इसका दिमाग खराब हो गया! किसको कहती है? थाल। लगाकर बैठती, पंखा झलती। वहां कोई भी न था। अगर प्रेम की आख न हो तो वहा कोई भी न था, और अगर प्रेम की आख हो तो वहां सब था। प्रेमी इसीलिए तो पागल दिखायी पड़ता है, क्योंकि उसे कुछ ऐसी चीजें दिखायी पड़ने लगती हैं जो अप्रेमी को दिखायी नहीं पड़ती। और प्रेमी अंधा मालूम पड़ता है, बड़े मजे की बात है। प्रेमी के पास ही आख होती है, लेकिन प्रेमी आख वालों को अंधा दिखायी पड़ता है। क्योंकि उसे कुछ चीजें दिखायी पड़ती हैं जो तुम्हें दिखायी नहीं पड़ती। तुम्हें लगता है, पागल है, अंधा है। शारदा सधवा ही रही। प्रेम को एक बर्ड ऊंची मंजिल उसने पायी। रामकृष्ण उसके लिए  कभी नहीं मरे। प्रेम मृत्यु को जानता ही नहीं। लेकिन प्रेम की मृत्यु में जो मरा हो पहले, वही फिर प्रेम के अमृत को जान पाता है। प्रेम स्वयं मृत्यु है, इसलिए फिर किसी और मृत्यु को प्रेम क्या जानेगा! नही, समय का और स्थान का कोई अंतर नहीं है। प्रेम सब फासले मिटा देता है। एक ही फासला है, और वह अप्रेम का है। एक ही दूरी है, वह अप्रेम की है। जब तक तुम्हारे जीवन में अप्रेम है तब तक तुम सभी से दूर हो। जिस दिन तुम्हारे जीवन में प्रेम   जागेगा, प्रेम का झरना फूटेगा, तुम सभी के पास हो जाओगे। और तुमने एक के साथ भी अगर प्रेम का नाता जोड़ लिया, तो तुम पाओगे कि तुम्हें प्रेम का स्वाद मिल गया। फिर एक से क्या जोड़ना! फिर सभी से जोड़ लेना। फिर सर्व से जोड़ा जा सकता है। प्रेम तो पाठ है  प्रार्थना का। सितारों के आगे जहा और भी हैं अभी इश्क के इम्तिहां और भी हैं प्रेम तो पाठ है प्रार्थना का। वह तो बारहखड़ी है। फिर बड़े इम्तिहान हैं। आखिरी इम्तिहान तो वही है जहा इस सारे  अस्तित्व के प्रति तुम्हारा प्रेम हो जाता है, सर्व तुम्हारा प्रेमी हो जाता है। किसी एक को प्रेम करना ऐसे ही है जैसे  खिड़की से संसार के सौंदर्य को झाकना। फिर खिड़की से जिसने झांककर देख लिया, वह खिड़की पर ही क्यों रुकेगा फिर बाहर का निमंत्रण मिल गया, फिर चांद-तारे बुला रहे हैं; फिर वह बाहर आ जाता है खुले आकाश के नीचे। प्रेम पाठ सीखा, खिड़की के पास से। इसलिए खिड़की के प्रति सदा ही कृतज्ञता का बोध रहेगा, भाव रहेगा। गुरु के पास परमात्मा का पाठ सीखा जाता है। प्रेमी के पास प्रेम का पाठ सीखा जाता है। अनुग्रह रहेगा उसका, सदा-सदा के लिए।

लेकिन जल्दी ही उससे पार होना है, और विराट चारों तरफ घिरा हुआ है। क्या खिड़की से देखना आकाश को,जब पूरा आकाश मिलने को संभव है, उपलब्ध है!
